Pvt Vernon Henry Johnson’s headstone is sinking
Pvt Vernon Henry Johnson
Update! It’s fixed!
US Marine Corps
Nov. 24, 1939 Oct. 4, 1972
My wife and I were visiting a local cemetery, following an historical tour booklet we’d gotten from our local Historical Society. (and geocaching and waymarking too.) when we came across Pvt Johnson’s headstone, which is sinking into the ground.
We did not have the tools available to fix this at the time, and technically, it’s not our property to be digging into. In the same cemetery there’s a veterans section. That section was recently spiffed up and they did a great job. Pvt Johnson is not near that section, and those volunteers probably had no idea his stone is in peril. I’m hoping those people or Pvt Johnson’s family will get wind of this and take care of it.

No events within 450 miles of me. Maybe I can think of something to suggest for next year!
